How Can Juicing Fruits And Vegetables Help You Stay Healthy?
Juicing your fruits and vegetables can be one of the best steps you can take if you want to stay healthy. Just as plants and vegetables need to be well nourished with organic nutrients to grow abundant and healthy, we humans also need to nourish our bodies well to be disease free. That means providing the body with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber and enzymes, and the only way to do that is to eat raw fruits and vegetables.
Since our body has to constantly deal with foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or anything that can possibly cause disease, it is very important that it maintains a strong immune system. The only way our body can do this is to make sure it gets all the nutrients it can. Although eating raw fruits and vegetables is great, juicing your fruits and vegetables and drinking the juice is even better for many reasons.
1. You can consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables more easily if you juice your food. In Canada’s Food Guide, the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables is 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables for an adult female and 8-10 servings for males. Absorbing those recommended portions of food can be overwhelming for either male or female. Who wants to take the time to sit down and chew all those fruits and vegetables? Who has the time to do that every day?
That’s where juice comes into play. You can put three, four or more vegetables and/or fruits in the juicer at the same time and drink the juice. In fact there are many books available filled with recipes of all kinds of combinations that are delicious. You can consume the required servings of fruits and vegetables that your body needs in less than 5 minutes and you are good to go.
2. Juicing and drinking your fruits and vegetables is better for your system.
When eating your fruits and vegetables, you must take the time to chew it well, and once swallowed, the body must finish breaking down the fibrous part of foods. The last step of the process is to digest and absorb the food with the help of enzymes.
This enzyme is usually present in raw fruits or vegetables. However, the additives and preservatives in processed food and the process of cooking the food by steaming and frying or even pasteurizing kill not only the enzyme but many of the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients present in the food. As a result, we end up eating food that is “lifeless”
On the other hand, juicing the fruits and vegetables keeps the enzymes and all the nutrients intact. Because the fruits and vegetables have become liquid, the body does not need to break down the fiber from the food. In addition, because the enzyme is present, the food is easily digested and the nutrients are more easily absorbed by the body.
3. Liquifying your food gives you the option to choose specific fruits or vegetables that can further help the body in certain situations.
As you probably know, different vegetables and fruits contain more of certain vitamins or minerals than others. Knowing what nutrients and how much of each nutrient is present makes it possible to drink problem-specific juices and give the body the help it needs to nurse its way back to health.
One specific example was related to me by an old lady, a friend of mine, who spent her life working as a maid for the rich. She told me how carrot juice every day saved her hand. At the time, one of her jobs was washing dishes almost from morning to night. Sometimes one of her hands got covered in a rash, it was very painful and beet red.
The doctor then told her to drink only fresh carrot juice every day for a month, to wear a white woolen glove at all times until the hand got better, and to work only in the garden. She had to take off this white glove only when she was working in the garden, where her hand could touch the ground. At the end of a month, all symptoms were completely gone and her hand was as good as new.
Here is another example. In the article “Medicine: U for Ulcers” written in the number of 1949 of time magazine, the author explains how Dr. Garnett Cheney of the Stanford University School of Medicine conducted a study on the effectiveness of cabbage juice in healing ulcers. Dr. Cheney believed that ulcers were the result of a lack of vitamin U in the body. Repeat X-rays would be used to monitor the results.
The participants, all of whom suffered from ulcers, were divided into two groups. One group would be put on a bland non-acidic diet and treated with milk and medicine to relieve burning (alkalis). In this group, duodenal ulcers healed in 37 days and gastric ulcers took 42 days to heal.
The people in the second group were allowed to continue with their normal routine of smoking and eating what they wanted. Instead of alkalis and milk, this group received one liter of freshly juiced cabbage divided into 5 parts during the day. In this group, duodenal ulcers healed in an average of 10.4 days and gastric ulcers healed in 7.3 days.
Although society has widely moved away from drinking liquefied fruits and/or vegetables as a means to help the body heal itself, it is never too late. Juicing fruits and vegetables is certainly a viable option that can still be explored.
4. By drinking juice freshly made from vegetables and fruits, your body will have access to the abundance of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals found in raw fruits and vegetables.s; thus, your body has a better chance of staying young and healthy. Why?
During normal activities of the day, our body produces what are known as free radicals. The antioxidants found in the body then hunt down these radicals and absorb them to prevent or at least slow down the damage that these free radicals can do to our skin and muscle tissue, damage that in turn can cause disease and aging.
Likewise, Vitamins and minerals are necessary for good health because they not only strengthen the immune system but also help cells and organs to do their work so that the body can develop and grow normally.
Since juicing your fruits and vegetables is undoubtedly the best way to give your body all the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that can not only strengthen your immune system but also increase and maintain good health, why not give it a try?
