Fun Learning Under K-12 Curriculum – All for The Achievement of Human Excellence
Lucky were the students who had a chance to enjoy learning: with all the necessary support from stakeholders around — journey to learning was really fun and meaningful.
With a sensible curriculum service their needs for authentic learning life skills were taught through the lessons/activities in and out of the classroom provided by a conscientious and efficient classroom teacher.
Parental support and greatest attention to their needs were given such as books, technology, among others–students had the opportunities to develop their expected competencies, exhibiting their passion; thus, making a great impact on their learning.
I always made sure that every lesson, project or assignment was within the learning environment/experiences of my students. The following learning activities tell us all about how I translated K-12 curriculum into authentic, relevant, and effective learning:
Mini Tour Around the City
Community habituation :with the help of parents, agile kids were able to see different places in San Jose del Monte– from Welcome sign to SM City to Nolasco Market to St. Peter Church to Barangay Offices of Gumaok East, Central and West to Generic Pharmacy to Grotto Vista Resort to St Joseph the Worker. Church to Old Town Hall to Lourdes Grotto Shrine.
To show their knowledge of their neighborhood, students had an opportunity to create a diorama representation of their health center, basketball court, daycare center, sari-sari store, etc.
Great Book Writing
Writing stories about their experiences, showing their writing style — from reflecting on a mini-tour to other learning activities. More than a hundred books were made by my students. Would they share their written work with their classmates.
Tame Your Dragon Video Presentation
Giving them an opportunity to use technology in creating ideas about how negative emotion can be dealt with — kind of showing them the essence of social-emotional intelligence in action. I believe that by doing this they would have empathy and be well adjusted people later in life.
Good Deeds for the Week
An activity sheet in which they wrote down good deeds they had observed during the day. Not only did they have an opportunity to be aware of their behaviors in dealing with people around them, but also they were able to develop their language skills, especially using grammar, say past tense of a verb: I listened carefully, I spoke softly, I did not harass a seatmate, to mention just a few.
Students were always ready to show off their dancing skills and singing prowess every time we had a classroom program like Nutrition Month, Lingo ng Wikaetc.
A usual culminating activity in which parents joined the fun and excitement by preparing a costume or props to make a party meaningful and memorable for children.
During the celebration of Nutrition Month, we invited a nursing mother to answer questions from students about breastfeeding, proper baby care, among others.
Verb cards were part of the lesson in which they had fun learning sight words in a sentence, a sentence… and a paragraph. Few had difficulty building sentences, others with a paragraph.
To instill in their young minds the value of planting vegetables, caring for seeds or young plants, etc. we had home gardening.
To create the value of taking care of our environment, especially the importance of clean water flowing in waterways, students had bangkang tsinelas a race in which they could see the condition of theirs soapy and to take necessary actions in their capacity as small defenders of the environment.
As a way to show their love for their culture — and others as well, they did a grand display of different provinces in Region 3 where people, their culture and arts were highlighted.
Quarterly Classroom-based Awards/Recognition
Recognizing exemplary works, presentations and all… selected students were given ribbons and certificates; their ever supportive parents were recognized as well.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone agile parents who, in one way or another, supported their children’s learning, with me. Along with other great stakeholders around, may you continue to enthusiastically engage in your child’s education.
