Hit Girl’s "Ninja" Internet Marketing Secret

After watching the recently released movie “Kick Ass” for a second time, I noticed a blatant internet marketing secret that almost everyone can use. It’s also a real doozy. Check this out:

Towards the end of the movie, there is a scene where the character Hit Girl (the 11-year-old ninja who steals the show) wants to infiltrate the mob headquarters. It is late and the cops are expecting an assault from the mysterious person who killed many of their number before.

In other words, they are on guard. With the weapons out and the building “locked”. So what does he do? Does he show up in his super hero costume guns blazing? Not good. Instead, she has her plain “civilian” clothes on, knocks on the glass door of the building, pretends she’s lost and asks to use the phone.

Who can say no to that?

So they let her in and, well… she’s not pretty from there.

Anyway, here’s the point:

What Hit Girl did is EXACTLY what smart internet marketers do. No… I’m not talking about fooling anyone… but slipping past your prospects natural “sales defenses”.

We ALL have them too. Even prospects trying to be sold are on guard. They have to be (for survival purposes).

They’ve probably recently been lied to, tricked or misled by someone they trust – including their bankers, employers, investment advisors, government, etc.

So those sales defenses are in PULL power. And you know what?

The best way to break down these defenses is to do the opposite of what they expect (ie NOT going in “guns blazing”) and instead…listen. Show them respect in your ads. Qualify them in your marketing. (They might not even need your product, right?) And show them you really care.

Hey, maybe that’s not the guru way.

But it works like nobody’s business.
