It Is Almost Impossible to Improve Your Vision With Eye Exercises

In 1969, when Joseph Kennebec wrote the book “Why glasses are harmful to children and young people”, only 10% of us were myopic.

Kennebec wrote: Until twenty-five years ago only a few in every thousand children and young people were myopic. Today it is more than ten percent, and worse every year. It will go to fifty or more percent, if something is not done.

Well nothing was done and today about 41% of us are now myopic. That’s 127 million people who need glasses to see clearly.

For the past 49 years, the Chinese Ministry of Education has asked students to exercise their eyes to fight myopia. Some of the simple exercises for the eyes that Chinese children do are:

  • Move the eyeballs as far as possible to the right, left, down and up;
  • rotate the eyeballs clockwise and counterclockwise;
  • close your eyes and reopen them really hard.

So how did the Chinese eye exercise program work? In some Chinese cities, 90% of school children are myopic – an explosion of myopia. There is absolutely nothing wrong with encouraging children to play outside and do some “eyerolls” or “up and downs”, but it does not improve anyone’s vision. Bates believed that almost all vision problems were caused by habitual eye strain. His book is more about relaxation techniques than active eye exercises.

Some of Bates’ relaxation techniques include:

  • memory – remember an object as blacker, for example.
  • imagination
  • central fixation – see better where you are looking
  • shifting and swinging – looking back and forth between objects
  • palming – cover both eyes with your palms for a few minutes then open them.

The Bates method is like taking your eyes for a short walk in the forest with the birds singing. There’s nothing wrong with it and it might even help your mental attitude, but if you really want to improve your eyesight, you should run your eyes through the forest, uphill, with a ten lb weight in your bag for one hour every day for three months. Then you will see incredible improvements. You need some eye exercises that force your eyes to WORK, not just imagine or remember or blink or relax. Your eyes need to work.

Most eye doctors say that you cannot improve your eyesight with simple eye exercises. It is not true. I improved my eyesight by doing eye exercises an hour a day, and even two hours some days. I am not talking about the Bates method, which does not work. The eye exercises I did were looking at a letter, in a book, as far away as I could see clearly, and then moving the book an inch further, and back, and away, over and over, while trying to focus. that clear black letter until I can FEEL my eye muscles getting the biggest workout they’ve ever had in their lives.

But I cannot explain everything in the short space of this article. There is more. You have to be aware of when your eyes FOCUS IN on that letter and when you move the book further away, you will notice that you can see the letter more and more clearly at greater distances, and start inventing some of your exercises d eyes. And I continued the eye exercises for a week without wearing my glasses at all, and without looking at a computer screen. I focused on my eye exercise plan 24 hours/day. And I began to look at things in the distance more, and actually to see more clearly than I ever did before. I also started eating well, and doing physical exercise. When I went downtown I could read the names on the street signs so clearly, it almost shocked me.

But people can’t do what I did. They need their glasses to go to work. It is almost impossible for people to improve their vision by doing eye exercises, because the eye exercises they do are simple exercises, which do not help much, and because people do not know where to start. And even though I had more time and space to explain the entire program here in this article, most people quit before they see results, or right after they see results and go back to their old habits. Staring at a computer is one of the best ways I know to become more myopic.

But the biggest reason that it is almost impossible to improve your eyesight with eye exercises is that no one believes that it is possible. I know it is possible. I did it. I just don’t know if I can convince anyone to believe it.
