Boobala Darling’s Long Awaited Proposal – Part 2 Of 3 – A Short Story

Boobala is finally on the cruise he’s wanted to take his whole life, but so far, it hasn’t gone so well. She was humiliated by the Captain, and aggravated by other guests. In part 2, however, their cruise takes a surprising turn.

As Boobala gorges on his food, a tall slim gentleman named Irving Levy walks into the dining room. He is assisted by his quad dog. Irving, a wealthy sixty-year-old retired stockbroker, is known to the Captain through his many voyages aboard the Empress Carinthia, but since his total hip replacement surgery and extensive physical therapy, he had not been able to travel so recently. , until now. Grateful that the worst is over, he still uses his quad dog for support at the moment. Dressed in a loud multi-striped shirt with a bow tie, checkered trousers and ridiculous braces, he sees Boobala sitting alone. He drags himself to his table.

“Excuse me, is this seat taken?” he asks in a well mannered voice.

Boobala gets angry because she didn’t want him or anyone else at her table. She sarcastically replied, “Do you see a reservation sign?”

“Why not,” Irving stammered, taken aback by his answer.

Boobala looks at Irving, amused by his outfit, though he has to admit it’s a bit cute. It is meticulously maintained. Her gray hair looks refreshingly healthy. He has a clean shaven face with a thin mustache. He likes the sound of her voice and the smell of her cologne.

“Not bad, not bad for an old man,” she thinks.

“So what are you waiting for, go ahead and park your Tuchis.”

Irving pulls out the chair and sits at the table with Boobala. “Thank you, thank you,” Irving says.

Boobala snaps at him, “Okay already, stop with the thanks. You’re giving me a headache.”

Irving turned to Boobala and introduced himself, “My name is Irving Levy. May I ask, who is yours?”

“Boobala Finkenberg Darling”.

“Honey, that’s not a Jewish name, is it?” Irving asks.

Boobala is annoyed by his many questions. She snaps at him with a wire in her voice “Vat, are you writing a book? You ask me about my private life. I don’t know you? My husband was English and he was a lazy bum. He beat me and he done. my life very unhappy. It was a loveless marriage of seventeen years. Because I could not hold a job, we ended up living with his uncle Jake throughout our marriage. We lived in bad times where even a penny was considered money. he worked, and he stole my paychecks to play. Harry died of a heart attack at the age of 36 because he owed money to a loan shark who wanted to cut him off. I was so young and so in love, I ran away with him. My parents were very rich, they owned a top of the clothing business in Brooklyn, but I disinherited when I ran away with Harry. pay for this trip, I won it, here, my whole life in a few words! Boobala quickly put her hand to her mouth, unaware of what she said gh just to a total stranger. It floated like oil on water. She felt embarrassed, wanting the earth to open up and swallow her. He hoped the women at the other table hadn’t heard. What was it about this man that made her feel so instantly at ease that she told him her whole life?

Irving looked at Boobala with compassion and adoring eyes, “The world is beautiful Boobala, but it’s the people who make it ugly.” He was fascinated by this fierce woman. For the first time in many years, he believed he was in love. Her hazel eyes sparkled as she continued to speak to Boobala.

“What a charming smile,” he thought, as he looked at her face. ‘Nice dental work. At least his breath doesn’t stink, and there’s no hair sticking out of his ears and nose.

“I see you are a beautiful Jewish woman. Do you speak Yiddish?” Irving asked.

“How could I say I am Jewish?

Irving points to her chest, “You’re wearing a button that says, ‘Kiss me I’m Jewish,’ plus it’s written on you.” Boobala looks at her chest, smiling as she remembers that Myrtle pressed the button on her. He could even hear Myrtle laughing and saying, “Here’s Boobala, an attention getter. It will be a great conversation piece to help you meet someone. Mazel Tov!” he had said as he hugged his beloved friend goodbye.

Irving continued to speak: “Also, you remind me of my ‘Libe Mameleh.'”Yiddish term: beloved mother). He takes out a large handkerchief, wipes his tears and blows his nose, putting the handkerchief back in his pocket.

After clearing his throat, he asks, “Say, tell me, have you rested?

Boobala answered shortly as usual. “Would I be here alone if I were married?”

“Sorry, I wasn’t thinking. Just trying to make small talk.” he answered.

Boobala, now irritated, continues to indulge in her meal. She suddenly stops for a moment to let out a burp, and says to Irving “Pass me a roll and the salt shaker please, and wipe your chin, you’re dribbling.”

After she finishes, she abruptly gets up and leaves the dining room area to go back to her cabin, stopping to buy a ticket for the land cruise. Irving, on the other hand, is so struck by Cupid’s arrow that he follows her like a lost puppy. Boobala stops at the photographer’s section to admire the pictures taken when the passengers boarded the Empress Carinthia. He remembers his ordeal and exclaims: “They didn’t even take my picture. I didn’t see it there.”

She turns and sees Irving behind her. ‘No way on earth can he be my prince charming. Those clothes and the quad dog have to go. She starts to gag and constantly avoids him to the point of rudeness. No matter how much he is insulted, he always makes his way back to her.

Every day they meet in the dining room. Boobala began to let her guard down and warm to him as they got to know each other better. She was beginning to expect him to show up. She really started to like it. Indeed, Irving had a terrible sense of humor, which Boobala instantly adored. He became rapturous with his smile. He was a man in love, and she was the woman he wanted to marry. He waited for the Captain’s night to propose.

My, my, what happens next. Will Boobala accept Irving as her Prince Charming? Has Boobala found true love? Boobala will finally have a fairy tale ending in her busy life. You can find out just by reading part 3.
