In an era where the information highway has reached the most remote of areas, how does ignorance still maintain a strong hold on the mental state of many people? How can they still exist with the assumption that just because they think, it must be true?

You may have bumped into many people with locs who chose not to maintain and keep their hair clean, healthy and good, but that does not mean that these attributes apply to my hair.

You may have encountered a few individuals who were too aggressive for your liking. They may have a criminal mind in one respect or another. Just because her hair was similar to mine, doesn’t mean I share the same mindset.

I once did a sale in Columbia Tennessee. After greeting the client, he asked me if my hair is real.

I answered yes.

She gave that “yeah right” look. I assured her it was true. We proceeded with the transaction. He eventually bought two cars from me.

When she came to take the second car with her husband, she came back again… “Seriously, your hair is real?”

Of course I say yes

She laughs and says… “I know… because you bought it right?”

“UH… no! It’s true because I’ve grown every strand of hair from my scalp.” I answered.

After he finally determined that I wasn’t kidding for two days, I saw the shock on his face and his husband still had the look of disbelief on his face.

At this moment, I passed the agitation and I am ready to jeopardize my commission by really enlightening these people in a way that could fit those stereotypes that they already have.

Cooler heads prevailed and I was able to keep my business and my sanity. Before they left the lot, the husband called me to the car and started asking a bunch of questions about my hair.

How do you keep it clean? What do you put in there? Do I feel like I’m being held back from moving forward in life?

I enlightened him both on the facets and the power of the natural movement of the hair. He encouraged them both to consider stopping poisoning their scalps with all kinds of harmful chemicals. It felt so good to watch their faces filled with doubt turn into intrigue.

They leave with a wealth of new information to think about and two new vehicles to do this inner contemplation.

Forgot to mention it was an African American couple.

I tell this story to show how no race, ethnicity, or age is exempt from this plague called ignorance.

Adapting the Natural lifestyle, please know, that our hair is sometimes the first level of creative expression that people are introduced to.
