The Celebration of Purmin

Purmin

Some may wonder what the word purmin means? Well, the Bible explains Purmin as a day of celebration. Purim is not one of the holidays established by the Mosaic Law, but it is still celebrated by the Jewish people today. The Book of Esther (I recommend reading the entire chapter of Esther) explains how Haman cast lots, which means pur, to choose a day to destroy the Jews, it also explains how this holiday came about and how God is faithful to his people. Let’s see what the Bible says about purmin.

First look at Esther 3:2 where it says that all the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and gave honor to Haman because the king had commanded it concerning him. But Mordecai did not kneel down and pay him respect.

Now look at Passover 3:5: When Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel down and honor him, he was furious. However, after learning who Mordecai’s men were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead, Haman looked for a way to destroy all of Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout Xerxes’ kingdom. In the twelfth year of the reign of Xerxes, in the first month, the month of Nisan, they cast pur (that is, lots) in the presence of Haman to choose the day and the month. And the lot fell for the twelfth month, the month of Adar.

Then Haman said to King Xerxes: In all the provinces of your kingdom there is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the nations, whose customs differ from those of all other nations, and who are not subject to the royal laws; it is not in the king’s interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree go forth to destroy them, and I will put ten thousand talents of silver into the king’s treasury for the men who are engaged in this business.

And the king took his seal from his finger and gave it to Haman the son of Hamedath, the Wagahite, the enemy of the Jews. Keep the money, said the king to Aman, and do with the people what you want. Verse 13 They were sent by couriers to all the royal provinces with orders to destroy, kill and destroy all the Jews – young and old, women and small children – on one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods.

Look at Esther 6:1 it says that the king could not sleep that night; therefore he ordered to bring and read to him the book of chronicles, the record of his rule. It was found recorded there that Mordecai exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two royal officers guarding the doorway, who had conspired to kill King Xerxes. What honor and recognition did Mordecai receive for this? – asked the king. Nothing was done for him, his servants replied.

Now look at verse 11 where it says that Haman was given clothes and a horse. He dressed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the streets of the city, proclaiming before him: this is what has been done for the man whom the king wishes to honor!

Look at Esther 7:1. It says that the king and Haman went to dine with Queen Esther, and as they were drinking wine that second day, the king again asked Queen Esther, what is your request? You will be given. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom will be forgiven. Then Queen Esther answered: If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, spare me my life – this is my request, and my people have been sold to be destroyed, slaughtered and destroyed. If we had simply been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such trouble would warrant troubling the king.

King Xerxes asked Queen Esther: Who is he? Where is the man who dared to do this? Esther said: The adversary and the enemy is the vile Haman.

Verse 10 says that they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s anger subsided.

Now look at Esther 8:5, which says, “If it pleases the king,” she said, “and if he finds me favorable and thinks it right, and if he pleases me, let a decree be written canceling the messages that Haman , the son of Hamedatus, the Agagian, planned and wrote to destroy the Jews in all the royal provinces. After all, how can I endure that calamity befall my people? How I can see the destruction of my family.

King Xerxes answered Queen Esther and Mordecai Judah: Because Haman attacked the Jews, I gave his estate to Esther, and they hanged him on the gallows. Now write another decree in the name of the king in the name of the Jews, as it seems best to you, and seal it with the king’s ring, for no deed written in the name of the king and sealed with his ring can be revoked.

Verse 11 The royal decree gave the Jews in every city the right to assemble and defend themselves; to destroy, kill and destroy any armed forces of any nationality or province that may attack them and their women and children; and plunder the property of their enemies.

Verse 16 says that for the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, mirth and honor. In every region and in every city, wherever the royal decree reached, there was joy and fun among the Jews, holidays and festivities. And many people of other nationalities became Jews, because the fear of the Jews gripped them.

Look at Psalm 35:27 where it says that those who rejoice in my vindication will shout for joy and gladness; let them always say: let the Lord be glorified, who loves the well-being of His servant!

The final consideration of Proverbs 11:10 says that when the righteous prospers, the city rejoices; when the wicked die, there are shouts of joy.

After reading the Book of Esther and from many experiences in my life, I can truly say that the Lord is faithful to all His servants. No matter the circumstances, he will be there and win for his children. He saves our lives every day. What joy and what happiness!!! I hope you are one of his servants, if it is not my prayer that you become one and feel the joy.

Always remember to read your Bible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
