Pioneer Avh-P4300dvd – Review and Main Features
Improved screen for AVH-P4300DVD
The actual display screen is now 7 inches which is more than enough for all us mere mortals. Of course, it includes touchscreen technology, which is actually a bit of an upgrade over older products. The monitor now feels and looks a lot more like your smartphone, with all the tap, drag and sweep features included. This has definitely made it even more user-friendly.
Menu navigation is much faster and the song list is very fast. The image resolution is typical for such screen formats, WQVGA 480×240 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The screen seems a bit brighter than the device’s predecessor, however, the anti-glare coating works great in the sun. Video is fantastic at night with even more vibrant colors and really clean videos.
A great detail I liked about the latest version of the Avh-p4300dvd is that the display screen can be electronically adjusted to 5 different viewing positions. It’s also possible to save multiple video configurations for the many sources you’ll be using, such as your iPod device or perhaps the rearview camera, saving you a lot of time instead of having to adapt the image every time you plug in your favorite external gadget.
The highlight is that the DVD and SD card slots are actually closed behind the display screen and open with the push of a button. Of course, you’ll find 5 different monitor colors, 4 different background images, 3 unique background videos along with 112 different key lighting options to try if you’re tired of all the brand new features or you just want a new visual appeal to your car’s interior.
Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD compatibility
The new Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD has been updated and is compatible with the vast majority of fresh portable accessories on the market, so you should have no problem connecting your gadgets. It is really very friendly with Apple iPhone and iPod models, which are the most commonly used gadgets in the entire US. You’ll need an extra cable from Pioneer to connect them, but that costs money.
With the all-new Direct Control service for iPhone and iPod, you can control your device using the touchscreen display on your device. It is really convenient to watch your tunes or perhaps movies and will really make your life easier. The standout feature is definitely Pioneer’s Pandora Link, which lets you connect to the Pandora music service right from your iPhone.
A great way to save your money with the Pioneer Avh-p4300dvd is to use your iPhone’s GPS navigation instead of an optional GPS component, although that’s your decision. It also offers a USB port that can be used to connect MP3 files, media gadgets or perhaps your photo frame.
Additional in-seat screens, DVD and Blue-Ray players, along with rearview cameras can be added via a pair of rear audio/video input and output ports. Indeed, the only element that is certainly missing is the built-in Blue-tooth, and this is certainly a thing that I personally don’t quite understand. Is that why Pioneer chose not to include things like a Bluetooth unit in a product that has all the other connectivity options? This difficulty can certainly be solved by buying an optional Blue-tooth module from Pioneer, but I still believe that the internal module will be much more efficient. The only good thing about this is that you can simply transfer the modules from your current Pioneer units, if you have one or two, to your AVH-P4300DVD and save money instead of buying a new one again.
Audio and video with Pioneer Avh-p4300dvd
It is armed with a MOSFET amplifier that will deliver 50 watts with 4 channels. Pioneer claims 22W RMS power, but CEA says otherwise: 14W RMS maximum power for 4 channels. Don’t get me wrong, it really is more than enough for most speaker platforms, let alone subwoofers or a supercharged sound system. It can be fine-tuned with the 8-band graphic EQ manually, or you can use the preloaded Easy EQ curves, which can be much faster.
The unit comes with Pioneer’s Auto EQ option, which you can purchase as an option, but that’s only if you absolutely demand perfection. Pioneer has also integrated the Advanced Sound Retrieval service, which restores sound quality lost when music is digitally compressed, and it works quite well. You won’t feel much of a difference, but if you pay close attention, you might notice it.
Another useful feature is definitely Sonic Center Control. It’s a listener position correction tool that lets you adjust your music based on where you’re sitting. It offers a graphical adjustment menu that is quite easy to work with and adjust how you or your passenger will hear the sounds from your Pioneer Avh-p4300dvd. It changes the timing of the loudspeaker depending on your position, resulting in improved sound quality. On the subject of multimedia compatibility, Pioneer has done a fantastic job.
The new unit is definitely a complete upgrade and can play pretty much anything you put into it. I tried CDs (R and RW), DVDs (also R and RW), Video CDs, Audio CDs, DivX video, etc. and had no problem playing even old and scratched discs. It also supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP3, WMA and i Tunes AAC multimedia file types and can display your JPEG images without any difficulty. A nice touch is the built-in 96kHz/24-bit D/A (digital-to-analog) decoder and linear PCM decoder, which functions very well.
In case you like to listen to your FM radio, it comes with a Supertuner IIID with 24 stations / 6 presets with RDS, which is standard for this type of product. It has better station memory which is very nice to have and I really appreciated it. If you really enjoy listening to the radio, you can invest a little more in XM or SIRIUS satellite radio modules or HD radio modules, but I’m not big on FM.
Thoughts and opinions on the new Avh-p4300dvd
All things considered, the new Avh-p4300dvd could be a great upgrade over the old unit. It has a much better connection, a great big monitor, the touch screen and menu functions are particularly convenient, supports all types of media files and looks very good. The only issue I definitely didn’t like was the lack of an included blue-tooth module, but other than that I really think Pioneer has done another great job when it comes to the AVH series receivers.
