It’s already dawn. It’s half past five in the morning. The sky changes color like a chameleon. I quickly climbed the stairs that lead to the terrace of my house in the suburbs of Chennai with a palavaram, papers and a pen. The inspiring parade of the pigeon army, the buzzing of bees, the mischievous sparrows, the leaping squirrels, the lively frolicking dogs, the joggers, the walkers, the sweet song of the cuckoo and the gym girls caught my attention. Half an hour flew by like half a second. The distant black-gray mountain seemed luscious green to my eyes. Of course, the sun’s rays and the piercing breeze were attractive. While I liked them all, they aren’t good enough to spark the first line of my unborn poem.

I moved into my garden, with my papers and pen, trying to influence my creativity. The plants greeted me with a dance. They recognized me because I water them every morning. The flowers smiled at me. One small plant whispered, “Hey! Look, friends! Our human friend has come with a pen and paper. Soon we can find a place on the Internet or in some books.” I have enjoyed her confidence in my writing and every moment, but it remains a mystery why the words elude me.

The day passed without any other activities.

It’s dark. Half past ten at night. I stand again on the same terrace. Sky is attractive like an African woman. The moon is so romantic, and of course it’s no wonder why so many writers and poets have flirted with it. “Hey, full moon! You’re too old for me. Still, I’d dare to flirt with you. Your cousins, the shining stars, are also stunning. But still, you’re all not good enough to be the cradle of my creativity.” – informed my eternal voice.

I closed my eyes, trying to think and achieve the vital concentration that would mark the beginning of my dream poems.

My father’s voice pulled me back, “Aakarsh, Aakarsh! what are you doing Get down.” I immediately rushed down. “Why are you such a worthless person! Look at the men of your age, shame on you!” he shouted. I instantly went to my room, locked it from inside and started writing the first line of my poem on the papers in my lovely mother tongue ‘Tamil’.

“This world is so competitive and comparative.

But great souls are always supreme.”
